The Chinese government has pledged to continue assisting Malawi in various development initiatives in appreciation of the flourishing relationship between the two countries.
The remarks were made by Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Wang Xiusheng, during presentation of Beautify Malawi programme awards to private schools in Malawi held at Zomba State Lodge. First Lady Gertrude Mutharika presided over the event.
Malawi is a beneficiary of the partnership between Beautify Malawi Trust (Beam), a charity of the First Lady, and the Chinese Embassy, aimed at promoting sanitation and environmental protection initiatives in local schools.
“China is encouraged by Malawi’s efforts in promoting sanitation and protecting the environment through the Beautify Malawi Programme,” Wang said.
Xiusheng emphasised that only health and strong people can take part in development initiatives, citing his country, which, he said, used to be in Malawi’s situation but has been making headway in socio-economic development.
On her part, Mutharika lauded the long-standing relationship between Malawi and China, thanking the latter for its support to local organisations such as Beam.
She further advised the youth to promote cleanness, saying success is second nature to those who take care of themselves and the environment.
