China pledges continued aid

Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Shi-Ting Wang, has pledged that his country will continue assisting Malawi in other growth areas apart from infrastructure development which the Asian country is famous for.

Some prominent facilities which the Chinese government has constructed in Malawi include the Bingu National Stadium (BNS), the Parliament Building and the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe and the Chitipa- Karonga Road.

Currently, China is assisting Malawi in dealing with the power problems that the country faces.

In an interview on the sidelines of a ceremony where he donated K10 million worth of sports equipment to the Malawi Wushu Federation, Wang said the cordial relationship between China and Malawi provides a conducive environment for mutual development.

He said China is also working on the community colleges project so that it helps in making sure the youth have access to technical and vocational skills.

“Our cooperation covers all areas of development. Apart from the economic cooperation, we are also passionate about other areas including people to people and culture cooperation. We are also working on the power problems in Malawi,” Shi-Ting said.

Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development, Henry Mussa, said China’s cooperation with Malawi is beneficial to both countries.

He said the landmark facilities that the Chinese government has constructed in Malawi speak volumes about the cordial relationship of the two countries.

“We will continue nurturing this cordial relationship. As a country, we are grateful for various developments that China is providing to us,” Mussa said.

Apart from assisting Malawi with different types of infrastructure, China also provides the largest number of scholarships and training opportunities for the country.
