Musician Tay Grin stands another chance to claim an award in the Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts (Beffta) Awards.
The artist has received two nominations for Best Music Video and Best International African Act respectively.
Other Malawian acts Dan Lu, Kell Kay and Marste have also been nominated in the category of Best International African Act.
Tay Grin said yesterday that it was a great honour for him to be recognised internationally yet again.
“I have worked hard this year pushing my music and getting into different territories. To be nominated shows that people have received my music well,” Tay Grin said.
The artist has soared this year having released two songs so far, Chipapapa which he collaborated with Nigerian star 2Baba formerly 2Face and Kanda which he collaborated with Sonye and Nigeria’s Orezi.
He is also set to release another single titled Sugar Mummie.
“This is good for the country as it gives recognition to our industry and its ability to produce world class music,” Tay Grin said.
He called on people to vote for him to do well and win the two awards.
“People should help me by voting and they can go to beffta.com/voting. There is more to come from me and I just want to thank people for the support they give me,” he said.
Voting is expected to end on October 16 and the winners are expected to be announced on October 30.
Tay Grin, who won the Beffta Awards in 2014 in the category of Best International Act for the song The Beach will battle it out with several other artists in the two categories he has been nominated.
In the Best International Male African Act Tay Grin will battle it out with fellow Malawian acts Kell Kay, Dan Lu and Marste as well as Jay Rox, Reekado Banks, Kiss Daniel, Timi Dakolo, Ali Kiba, Eddy Kenzo, Diamond Platnumz, Maleek Berry, Shattawale, Deng, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Sauti Sol, Flavour, Patoranking, Eric Geso, , Falz and Kalifah Aganaga.
In the category of Best Music Video, Tay Grin, with his Chipapapa will compete with Kidogo (Diamond Platnumz ft Psquare), Mwana (Alikiba), Mungo Park (Korede Bello), Airbrush (Seyi Shay), Africa (Yemi Alade ft Sauti Sol), Na Gode (Yemi Alade), African Child (Inspired Pintinz), Teddy Dankira (Dankira) and Loke (SHiiKANE.
Dan Lu, Kell Kay and Marste could not be reached for their comment yesterday.
There are several other categories including Best African Legend which has JJC, Angelique Kidjo, Jose Chameleone, Majek Fashek, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, 2Baba and Dbanj.
Beffta Awards are awards aimed at honouring the best showbiz and entertainment personalities in the black and ethnic communities in the UK, USA, Africa, Caribbean, Canada and globally.
The awards are said to be the first of its kind rewarding under one roof outstanding achievements and contributions from Africans, Caribbeans and Asians in entertainment, film, fashion, television and arts.
The awards were founded by Pauline Long who was inspired to start Beffta awards after organising Mr and Miss East Africa UK for many years.
