Chirimba School Committee in fundraising drive

The sight of Standard Five and Six students learning under trees and special needs students moving from one makeshift room to another has spurred the Chirimba Primary School Committee to launch a fundraising campaign.

One of the people at the heart of the fundraising drive, Ellis Hiwa, said in an interview that the school plans to raise K12 million.

“Infrastructure is one of the most basic elements necessary to ensure access to education. School infrastructure influences the quality of various elements of the education process. It is disheartening to see Chirimba Primary School Standard Five and Six students still learning under trees due to lack of blocks.

“The Chirimba School Committee is hence raising funds for [the construction of] Standard Five and Six blocks. Furthermore, the school teaches special needs students and these students, as of now, do not have an appropriate learning class. We plan to accommodate 50 special needs students and the special needs education centre will help special needs students to access quality education,” Hiwa said.

Hiwa said the school needs K5, 885, 150 to finish construction of a special needs resource centre while K5, 420, 000 is needed to construct blocks for Standard Five and Six students.

“Well-wishers can contribute through bank account number 0080705184015,” she said.
