Chitipa United budget hits K70 million

Chitipa United have disclosed that they need K70 million to fulfill their TNM Super League assignments for the 2017 season.

Chitipa, who were promoted from the Simama Premier Division of the Northern Region, have no sponsorship, yet they will also be required to fullfil national cup engagements.

Chitipa will be using Mzuzu Stadium as their home ground, a distance of about 300 kilometers from their district.

The club’s General Secretary, Marshall Mwenechanya, said after roping in Rodgers Kamodzi as their Chairperson, the Executive Committee held a meeting early this week.

Kamodzi replaced George Ndenga who resigned last week due to personal reasons.

Mwenechanya called for support from well-wishers and investors.

“We met as a committee to draw up the budget. We have come up with a budget of K70 million. At the moment, I cannot say ‘this is how much we have in our coffers.’ We are still looking for the corporate world’s help,” he said.

“To fulfill all the fixtures is not a joke. To travel from here to Blantyre means that we will be leaving Chitipa on a Wednesday and that means we need to cater for food, accommodation, transport and allowances for the boys.”

He added that the budget will also cater for the buying of players.

Mwenechenya said Chitipa will ask Super League of Malawi to allocate some of the team’s games at the newly-built Nthalire Stadium.

“ I know that it is not going to be easy to raise this money, but if we manage to raise the money, I am so sure that we will be a good side,” Mwenechanya added.
