Jackson Beza scored a brace for Chitipa to help his side come from behind and win the match.

The champions amassed 25 points from 14 matches to return to the top flight league after spending a season in the lower tier following the relegation last season.

In a post-match interview, Chitipa Coach Nathaniel Mkangama said it was a tough journey due to stiff competition in the league.

“It is exciting that we have emerged the Northern Region champions to return to the Super League. It was not easy but we have made it,” he said.

Mkangama said the team must sign new players to withstand Super League heat.

On his part, Mayamiko Stars owner, McDonald Mayamiko Tembo, said they have gained experience from this season but cried foul over a penalty awarded to Chitipa.

“We took the lead but they equalised through a dubious penalty. We protested but we later resolved to play under protest. This is bad for the game,” Tembo said.

Meanwhile, NRFA General Secretary Masiya Nyasulu has described the season as the best.

“We have just identified the champion because none of the teams can accumulate 25 points even if they win their remaining games,” Nyasulu said.
