Chitipa United expect striker’s exit
Newly-promoted TNM Super League side, Chitipa United, have admitted that they were likely to lose their top striker, Abel Mwakilama, to a foreign team.
The Under-20 striker is on the wanted-list of local and foreign clubs such as Mpumalanga Black Aces in South Africa.
Chitipa Coach, Robert Mzinza, who is also Mwakilama’s manager, on Monday said the player will likely attend trials at Aces this month.
“We are making his travel arrangements with the help of the football authorities. We would have loved to keep him but since it is a foreign team that is interested in him, we cannot stand in his way,” Mzinza said.
Other Super League teams have also reportedly shown interest in the Simama Premier Division top scorer, who can hold up play well upfront and can take on defenders.
However, Mwakilama needs more aggression to challenge tough defenders.
Mwakilama was part of the Malawi Under-20 National Football Team that participated in the 2016 Cosafa Youth Championship held in South Africa last month.
Other Under-20 players such as Peter Banda and Nickson Nyasulu are also in demand.
