Chitipa United eye academy
Months after donating a bus to Chitipa United, the team’s sponsor, Clever Mpoha, reportedly wants to build the relegation-bound TNM Super League side an academy.
Chitipa General Secretary, Marshall Mwenechanya, said the Zambia-based Malawian wants to transform the team, adding that their Executive Committee has since approached Chitipa District Council over the project.
“We need [a piece of] land of approximately 40 hectares, and we have made a move on that. The only delay is that the District Commissioner has been posted elsewhere.
“What is remaining is to engage her successor on the matter. We are planning to have players from under-15 and above for both sexes,” Mwenechanya said.
Chitipa assistant Coach, Robert Mzinza, said the academy would make the team stronger.
Veteran soccer analyst, Charles Nyirenda, said the establishment of the academy would be a good idea, but sustainability could be a challenge.
