Chitipa United hire KondwaniMwalweni

Newly-promoted TNM Super League side, Chitipa United, have roped in former Karonga United mentor Kondwani Mwalweni as Head Coach.

Chitipa General Secretary, Marshall Mwenechanya, confirmed the appointment, saying it was part of rebuilding and fulfilment of Club Licensing System requirements.

“We have been looking for a coach to take us through the elite league since Mzinza (Robert), who was our coach in the lower league, does not possess the required minimum Caf B Licence. He will, therefore, be the assistant to Mwalweni,” Mwenechanya said.

He further said the team opted for Mwalweni because he is a young and has vision.

Mwalweni has since promised to take the team to greater heights.

“It is a big challenge, but with the help of Mzinza, I am ready to face it. I know the team,” Mwalweni said.

“I have seen them play and my first assignment will be to assess the players and see where we need to beef up so that we can have a strong squad. We need support from everyone, including the media.”

The youthful coach quit Karonga towards the end of the 2016 season, claiming that some supporters did not want him.

Chitipa emerged champions in the 2016 Simama Premier Division. However, last week, George Ndenga resigned as Chitipa chairperson.
