Chiukepo Msowoya doubtful for Cecafa tourney
Malawi national football team, the Flames forward, Chiukepo Msowoya, risks missing the Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) Senior Challenge
Cup after aggravating a rib injury during his club’s 2-0 victory over Kamuzu Barracks at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.
The Big Bullets forward Chiukepo went down unchallenged early in the first half, and he was immediately replaced by Davie Ng’ambi.
According to the Flames team doctor, Levison Mwale, Chiukepo was to undergo a
fresh scan as we went to press Monday.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the rib is okay. The pain might have come because of a traumatised tissue. It is too early to confirm whether he will be part of the team or not,” he said.
Mwale said besides Chiukepo’s injury, there were no new injury concerns as Flames regrouped Monday.
The Flames coach, Ernest Mtawali, said the technical panel would respect the medical personnel’s recommendations.
“We will not compromise. We want to pick players that will help us,” he said.
Bullets technical advisor, Billy Tewesa, who also acts as Chiukepo’s manager, said the striker has since been given only three days off, hence he will certainly make the Flames squad.
The Flames face Sudan on November 23 in Bahir Dar Stadium, Ethiopia before taking on Djibouti at the same venue two days later. Malawi will conclude their group assignments against South Sudan on November 27.
