BY MPHATSO MALIDADI:
Nyasa Big Bullets veteran forward, Chiukepo Msowoya, has taken over as the leading scorer in the TNM Super League with 12 goals to his credit.
Msowoya has overtaken Stain Davie of TN Stars and Civil Sporting Club playmaker Raphael Phiri, who are second with 11 goals each.
Msowoya banged a double as Bullets run riot at Kamuzu Stadium to humble Kamuzu Barracks 6-0 in a Super League match on Sunday.
Juma Yatina of Masters Security has scored nine goals whereas Msowoya’s teammate Bright Munthali has also scored nine.
China Chirwa of TN Stars, Moyale Barracks’ Gastin Simukonda and Luke Chima (Azam Tigers) have eight goals apiece.
Meanwhile, league leaders Bullets have been scoring for fun since the reopening of Blantyre’s Kamuzu Stadium last month.
The People’s Team scored 12 goals in two back-to-back matches. Changalume Barracks allowed Bullets to net half-a-dozen goals in the Carlsberg Cup round-of-16 before their brothers-in-arms, Kamuzu Barracks conceded the same number of goals in a league match.
At the same venue, Bullets also beat Karonga United 3-1 prior to drawing 1-1 with rivals and league defending champions Be Forward Wanderers.
Mitundu were also victims of Bullets’ ruthlessness in front of goal as they were hammered 8-0 in the Carlsberg Cup round-of-32.
Bullets Team Manager, James Chilapondwa, said they would not get complacent with their efficiency.
“We will still be treating each game as a final because we have nine more games to go. Of course, at times, the strikers tend not to score but it happens everywhere for a striker to go some games without hitting the back of the net,” he said.
