Chiukepo Msowoya, Zicco Mkanda lead in scoring
By Peter Kanjere:

Nyasa Big Bullets striker Chiukepo Msowoya is not only the 2018 TNM Super League Golden Boot Award winner, but he is also the overall top scorer in all top flight competitions with 24 goals this season, Malawi News has established from records.
Msowoya, the three-time Super League top scorer, netted thrice more than Be Forward Wanderers’ Zicco Mkanda, who played less games.
Msowoya registered the 24 goals in 47 games across all competitions—16 in the Super League, four in Carlsberg Cup, one in Airtel Top 8, two in Fisd Challenge and one in Caf Champions League.
Bullets Team Manager, James Chilapondwa, confirmed that Malawi News’ statistics were correct, saying: “Msowoya missed only three Super League goals.”
However, Mkanda has a better goal-per-game ratio as he scored 11 goals in 18 Super League games, seven in five Fisd games, two in four Carlsberg outings and one in three Airtel matches.
The former Escom Reserve forward struggled for game time after joining Wanderers at the end of his self-imposed exile in Mozambique where he featured for three clubs and won the Golden Boot Award once with 14 goals.
“When I joined Wanderers, I struggled because the football I was playing in Mozambique was different from the one played here. Coordination also played a part since we could not know each other well,” the 28-year-old Mkanda said.
With some 14 goals in all competitions, including 10 in the Super League, Bullets’ Nelson Kangunje finished the season as the highest scoring midfielder.
Mike Tetteh of Silver Strikers was also among the leading overall scorers, having registered 15 goals in all competitions with the games spread between Silver Strikers and Mzuni where he was on loan.
The Ghanaian scored 11 goals including seven with the students.
However, apart from Msowoya Tetteh is ineligible to feature for the Flames as he is a foreigner whereas Mkanda is overlooked by the national team selectors.
He has some five caps and helped the Flames to win the Cosafa Plate Championship in 2015.
Out of 240 games played in the league, 539 goals were scored. Bullets topped the scorers’ chart with 54 goals, followed by rivals Wanderers on 48 goals.
