Cho, Bailey win Britam golf

Sung P Cho and Evelyn Bailey outclassed 64 golfers to be crowned champions of Britam Insurance Company Limited golf tournament held at Lilongwe Golf Club on Saturday.

Played under individual stable-ford format, Cho braved chilly weather to collect 39 points, beating Malawi’s highly-rated golfer, Adam Sailesi on 37 points.

Malawi Golf Union Chairperson, Frank Mvalo, finished third when he was counted out on 37 points.

In his victory speech, Cho hailed Britam for organising the competition, saying, “I played some good round of golf and I really enjoyed.”

In the ladies’ category, Bailey emerged as the champion with 37 points followed by Susan Makin on 35 points. Makin also won the longest drive on hole seven, whereas Moses Limuwa scooped the longest drive in the men’s category on hole two.

Shepherd Tembo won the nearest-to-the pin on hole 15.

Speaking during prize-presentation, Britam Chief Executive Officer, Grant Mwenechanya, said the competition was organised to interact with the company’s customers.

“We are glad that it was a wonderful tournament and the turnout was impressive,” Mwenechanya said.

There was jubilation among the golfers when Britam donated K250, 000 to the golf club for the maintenance of the golf course.
