‘Choices’ soapie back

The soapie—Choices returns to the MBC TV screen this year having made a stop in October last year.
The brains behind the soapie, Ashukile Mwakisulu, confirmed the development yesterday, saying there were some differences due to contractual issues, hence stopping.
“Everything is now in black and white and MBC has given us a new contract and we are ready to roll,” Mwakisulu said.
He also said that they have been having difficulties sustaining the programme, which in the past enjoyed airtime on Zambezi Magic on DStv before it stopped.
“We have had financial challenges and the programme run for almost three years without sponsorship since Airtel Malawi stopped sponsoring it in 2017. But now we have sorted out these issues,” Mwakisulu said.
He said they have new faces in the soapie and that the storyline has also taken a different direction.
“We have set up a new fictitious insurance company called LifePro which is headed by Shawn (Barry One) and his partner Neil O’Mally (Robert Loughlin). Elsie (Mwai Simbota) and her rival Tabitha (Tess Mlenga) find themselves working in the same office,” Mwakisulu said.
He also said they have a convicted criminal-cum religious leader Dr Jiwe (Emmanuel Sispence Phiri), who, after having served his jail term, gets transformed into a cult-like figure with quite a significant influence amongst his followers.
