Cholera Vaccination set

The Government of Malawi will from tomorrow begin the cholera vaccination campaign targeting eight districts in the Southern Region.
Environmental Health Officer for the Ministry of Health, Wiseman Chimwaza, has told us that the campaign will target Malawians aged one and above.
“All is set for the exercise. Our target is eight districts in the Southern region where we will disburse 1, 900, 000 doses for the first round and the same for the second round, which will be done in two to six weeks’ time after the first round,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chikwawa Health office has already received 308, 000 doses of the cholera vaccines.
The District Director of Health and Social Services for Chikwawa, Dr. Stalin Zinkanda has told us the doses will serve the target population.
“We are targeting 308, 000 people in Chikwawa – which is half the population of the district. We have enough doses for all of them and we are ready for disbursement,” he said.
Nsanje, Chikwawa, Mulanje, Blantyre, Phalombe, Machinga, Balaka and Mangochi are the districts tarheted for the campaign which will end on 27 May.
The campaign has 1, 900, 000 cholera vaccines for the first round.
As of today Saturday, the country has registered 332 cumulative cases, 15 total deaths, and 18 currently admitted in treatment units.
