Chombe Foods has launched new products which will see the company diversifying from tea production to break into new markets to offer products such as sugar, rice and tomato ketchup.

Chombe foods General Manager, Grecium Thomas, said a market research the company conducted showed that there was a gap on the market and that the new products will help to fill that gap.

“Our rice will hit the local market mid this month, while the other products will come later on. We are still discussing with relevant authorities so that they certify the sugar and the ketchup. We have done all the necessary procedures but what remains is for the authorities to give us a green light,” said Thomas.

He further said the company will not compromise quality hence Malawians should expect high quality standard goods.

Thomas also hinted that the company will be value adding locally produced tomatoes into ketchup.

“Chombe would like to complement the government’s efforts in terms of value addition. We will be processing locally produced tomatoes which we will be buying from local farmers into ketchup. We believe by value addition, Chombe will be uplifting the lives of the farmers economically and also put to full usage of the tomatoes that are normally thrown away as they easily get bad,” said Thomas.
