National lightweight contender number one, Chrispin Moliyati, has opted to face budding Yohane Banda instead of Salimu Chazama in a 12-round title contest set for M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe on Sunday.

Before being stripped off the belt after failing to defend it within the mandatory period, Moliyati won it on a unanimous decision over former champion, Chazama.

However, Moliyati has opted for Banda for the title contest, citing lack of challengers.

“I could have defended the title if others had challenged me. Having stayed idle for some months, I am now concentrating on this fight. I promise my fans that I will put up an impressive performance to remind them how I fight,” he said.

The Malawi Defence Force boxer fights under No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions.

Banda has since warned Moliyati not to underrate him.

Gomez Boxing Promotions has organised the bill and it will include three supporting fights.
