Local Lightweight champion, Chrispin Moliyati, is expected to feature on an Africa Boxing Union (Abu) undercard in Maputo, Mozambique, next month.

Moliyati will feature on the bill which will see compatriot and fellow Malawi Defence Force boxer, Wilson Masamba, vying for an Abu Super Lightweight title fight against Kaizer Mabuza of South Africa.

The 12-round title contest is set for June 23.

However, details of Moliyati’s possible opponent are sketchy as promoters were yet to seal the deal.

Moliyati, who recently reclaimed the national title after defeating Yohane Banda on unanimous decision at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe, said he had stepped up preparations.

“Even though I do not know my opponent, there is no point for me to stop training when I have an equally important fight. I want to be in shape for the fight so that I should improve my record. By doing so, I will market myself to international promoters,” he said.

Moliyati has also hailed the support he received from fellow boxers, including Salimu Chazama, ahead of the title rematch.

Following his win over Banda, Moliyati has improved his record to 19 wins from 30 bouts.
