Veteran Kenya-based gospel singer Chrissie Kamthunzi has received two nominations in the Kenya Gospel Music and Legends Awards.
The songstress has been nominated in the Song Writer of the Year and Diaspora Artist of the Year categories.
Kamthunzi said yesterday she was happy to be nominated for the first time in the Kenya Gospel Music and Legends Awards.
“This is the first time and I am so excited. This gives me courage that people in Kenya appreciate my music. Others have actually told me they have been blessed and touched by my music although they cannot understand the language,” she said.
Kamthunzi has since called on Malawians living in Kenya and Kenyans to vote for her.
Other categories in the awards include Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Female Artist of the Year and Gospel Group of the Year.
According to Kamthunzi, the Kenya Gospel Music and Legends Awards nomination gala took place last Sunday in Nairobi.
“People have started voting right now and actually this runs up to the end of the month,” she said.
Kamthunzi last year launched her eighth album Angathe at Robins Park in Blantyre.
This was also part of the singer’s celebration of 20 years in the music industry since she turned solo.
Kamthunzi first launched the album in South Africa before coming to Malawi.
Her other albums are Kuunika, Zikomo, M’khale Woyamba, Wokondedwa, Mbuye Wanga, Women of Africa and Asante Bwana.
