Chrissie Kamthunzi set to celebrate 20 years in music
The country’s Kenya-based veteran gospel singer Chrissie Kamthunzi has said she is ready for the launch of her latest album Angathe to be held at Robins Park in Blantyre on May 1, 2016.
Angathe is Kamthunzi’s eighth album. The other albums she has released are Kuunika, Zikomo, M’khale Woyamba, Wokondedwa, Mbuye Wanga, Women of Africa and Asante Bwana.
“I thank God for giving me this talent and opening doors for me. It’s been a long time since I performed in Malawi. I can’t wait to get on stage. The launch will be huge because I am also celebrating 20 years in music since I became solo,” she said.
Kamthunzi revealed that she already launched the album at Hope of Glory Church in South Africa.
“I am inviting everyone to this launch and I have added seasoned gospel musicians on the menu which include Wycliffe Chimwendo, Ethel Kamwendo Banda, Allan Ngumuya, Eliza Kachali Kaunda and Ndirande Anglican Voices. We also have other up and coming musicians,” she said.
The last time Kamthunzi released an album was in 2009.
She said her latest album is a continuation of a message she delivered in her previous album Asante Bwana which she launched in Nairobi in 2009.
She described Angathe as a praise and worship album which is exalting God.
Some of the songs in the 10-track album include‚ ‘Chibonga’ ‘Chanu,’‚‘Woyera,’ ‘Mchere,’ ‘Jobu,’and ‘Alemekezeke.’
