Christopher Kumwembe wins double Smile Life Insurance awards
New Mighty Mukuru Wanderers forward Christopher Kumwembe said winning two man-of-the-match awards in two successive matches will act as a springboard for success.
Kumwembe collected his second award on Saturday when he scored a hat-trick as Wanderers thrashed Red Lions 3-0 in a TNM Super League match at Balaka Stadium.
Following his exploits, Kumwembe has received a total of K300,000 from Wanderers’ partner Smile Life Insurance.
The Flames striker said the accolades are the biggest motivation to his career at the Lali Lubani road side.
“I never anticipated this when I came to Blantyre to join Wanderers. I dedicate the awards to my teammates for the support and good working relationship. I will continue working hard and I believe there is more to come,” he said.
Wanderers unveiled its partnership with Smile Life Insurance Company at Mount Soche in Blantyre on Thursday.
The insurance firm’s chief executive officer Stain Singo said the introduction of the awards will enhance competition in the team.
“We are pumping in over K8 million and we believe this will add value to our brand on the market. We are very happy to see Kumwembe win his second man of the award under our sponsorship,” he said.
Singo said they expected Wanderers to maintain their good start to the season, having won two successive games convincingly.
Kumwembe has now banged four goals in two games and Wanderers have scored five goals without conceding.
