Former Mbayani Heaven Door Choir members have been ex-communicated from Mbawa CCAP in Blantyre following chaos that erupted on Saturday, The Daily Times has learnt.

A source within Mbawa CCAP said that the former members caused chaos at the church and beat up other members of the choir following discussions which were called for by the church.

The source further said that following the incident, police were called to the scene who later arrested the former members.

“These former members left Mbayani Heaven Door Choir to form their own group but they have been using the name of the choir as well as the church. Efforts were made to sort out the problems but to no avail and this is when last weekend the church decided to invite these members for discussions,” explained the source.

“In the course of the meeting the former members beat up members of the current Choir causing chaos. The church had no choice but to call police who arrested them and have spent close to three days in the cell before being granted bail.”

Mbawa CCAP Deputy Session Clerk Frank Chiepa confirmed the incident saying, they have since ex-communicated the members of the group.

“These former members lacked discipline during the meeting. This is why we thought of inviting them to the roundtable discussion,” said Chiepa.

Chisomo Muwera, who has been the choir master of the group in the past years before moving out with seven other members, also confirmed on Tuesday that they were arrested but have now been granted bail.

He however, could not shed more light on the issue. Mbayani Heaven Door Choir has been on the up having released their albums including Mwapambana Zonse whose title track continues to enjoy airplay in some local radio stations.
