Some civil society organisation leaders engaged Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda in Lilongwe Thursday, when they discussed modalities for fighting corruption.

Youth and Society (Yas) Executive Director Charles Kajoloweka confirmed the development.

“We had a frank and cordial engagement on the need for the government to take clear steps to restore stakeholders’ confidence by refraining from intrusive political interference in operations of law enforcement agencies,” Kajoloweka said.

He said one of the issues they discussed is the interdiction of Anti- Corruption Bureau Director General Martha Chizuma and ensuing court battles.

Human Rights Defenders Coalition Chairperson Gift Trapence corroborated the sentiments, describing the meeting as fruitful.

Chakaka Nyirenda also confirmed the development.

“I can confirm that the meeting took place but, as at now, I will not go into details on what transpired,” he said.

The Daily Times has established that, apart from Yas and HRDC, organisations that had representatives at the meeting included Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace, Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation and National Advocacy Platform.
