Central Region sleeping giants Civil Sporting Club have fired five players, as they look forward to beefing up their squad for the 2020 season.

Following the development, some players who were on loan will also be released back to their parent clubs.

Inside sources at the club indicate that more are expected to face the chop as soon as the board gives the greenlight.

Civil General Secretary, Ronald Chiwaula, said the firing of the players follows a recommendation made by the technical panel which is headed by coach Franco Ndawa.

Chiwaula said the departure of the players will give a chance to the technical panel to identify suitable replacements capable of helping the team win silverware in the new season.

“It is true that some players have been released by the club. But the obvious names are Muhammad Sulumba whose contract finished and three players from Silver Strikers who were loaned to us. These are obvious names but the other names are yet to be approved by the board,” he said.

The axed players include Blessings Kameza, Timothy Chitedze and Sulumba, who has since taken his club-hunting exercise to Vietnam.

Among the stars earmarked to replace the sacked players is Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder, Ben Manyozo.

Civil finished the season empty-handed despite a brilliant start which saw them top the TNM Super League log table for several weeks.
