Civil Sporting Club hope to extend lead

Civil Sporting Club hope to maintain top spot in the TNM Super League when they host Dwangwa United at Civo Stadium this afternoon.

The Civil Servants have made a perfect start to the season having won two consecutive games against Mlatho Mponela and Karonga United by 3-0 margins to earn six points.

Dwangwa have been Civil’s banana skin after defeating the government-sponsored side 1-0 at Chitowe Stadium before claiming a 2-0 victory at Civo last season.

This means Civil would be looking for revenge against the lakeshore team which defeated Chitipa United 1-0 last week.

But Civil Coach, Franco Ndawa, said his charges are well prepared for Dwangwa.

“Dwangwa are a good team but we are prepared for them. We trained well and we will fight to get a good result,” Ndawa said.

Civil have bolstered their squad with several experienced players including Emmanuel Zoya, Dan Kumwenda, Timothy Chitedze, Blessings Kameza and Lucky Mdezo whereas Dwangwa will bank their hopes on players such as Chifuniro Mpinganjira, Francis Rabson, Blessings Singini and Victor Harawa.

Dwangwa assistant Coach, Ladwell Mbetewa, said they expect Civil to come hard on them.

“We have dominated them for the past two seasons. We play a similar type of football and we enjoy playing against them. The pressure is on them because we beat them last season home and away, but we are also cautious,” Mbetewa said.

Dwangwa have four points after playing two games.

Up North, Moyale Barracks and Mzuni take their Mzuzu derby to Karonga Stadium.

Moyale are coming from a 3-0 victory over TN Stars on Saturday whereas Mzuni drew 2-2 against Stars.

Moyale Coach, Charles Kamanga, said the players are in high spirits ahead of the match whereas his Mzuni counterpart Gilbert Chirwa said they are aiming at their first win of the season.

Action continues tomorrow with defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets taking on Mighty Tigers while Blue Eagles host Mlatho Mponela, with TN Stars welcoming Dwangwa at Kasungu Stadium.
