In a bid to save the sinking ship, Civil Sporting Club have reportedly roped in their former coach, Oscar Kaunda, as an Assistant Coach to Franco Ndawa.
Ndawa is still searching for his victory at the Lilongwe club after losing to Mafco 1-0 and Master Security FC 2-1 in the last two consecutive weeks.
Civil General Secretary, Thomas Makiwa, could neither deny nor confirm Kaunda’s appointment. Civil are bottom of the table.
“I do not know anything about Kaunda’s appointment. I have just seen pictures that he was at Civo training ground on Tuesday but I will not be able to talk more on that issue at the moment,” Makiwa said.
Kaunda, who was spotted drilling Civil players during Tuesday’s training session, claimed that he merely visited the facility.
But the former Kabwafu FC and Karonga United mentor signed a one-year deal as Head Coach of Chipiku Premier Division side, Lake Valley, after dumping Masters Security FC.
Lake Valley Technical Director, Abbas Makawa, insisted that he was in the dark about Kaunda’s departure.
“He has a running contract with Lake Valley and I am hearing from the media that he has joined Civo. We were together during a league match over the weekend,” Makawa said.
Kaunda won the defunct Standard Bank Knock-out Cup with Civo in 2015, only to get the sack the following season after he failed to meet the Caf B Licence required for Super League coaches.
