With six weeks remaining before the start of the TNM Super League, a proposed merger of relegated Civo United and Epac FC hangs in the balance.
Civo officials are not sure whether their plans of finding a way of staying in the elite league will materialise.
Civo’s officials have been holding talks with their former second vice-chairperson, Dean Josiah to allow his team, Epac, merge with Civo so that they can remain in the elite league.
It is reportedly that both parties are yet to agree on the amount of money that Civo will pay the Epac owner.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that Josiah is demanding K40 million for the merger.
Civo General Secretary, Ronald Chiwaula, said he was just waiting to hear from their sponsor on whether they will remain in the top league.
He added that they are starting their preparation next week Tuesday.
“What we have done is to start our preparations because we don’t know what will happen on our intention to remain in the Super League despite being relegated. We are just hopeful that it will work. We are ready for everything and we need to assemble a squad that will be committed to give us results and restore the lost glory,” Chiwaula said.
However, Epac FC General Secretary, Chiyamiko Lita, said he was yet to get direction from Josiah.
Lita added that they would go ahead with their pre-season preparations to start on Wednesday.
“The issue about Epac merging with Civo is in the hands of my boss. Whatever comes will see the way forward but as Epac, we would like to invite all players who are interested in joining us to do so at Lilongwe Community Centre ground.”
Josiah could neither confirm nor deny the proposed merger.
Ironically, Josiah in his capacity as former Civo vice –chairperson, recently lambasted the team over their relegation.
