Civo United players promised 60 percent
Civo United management has promised players a 60 percent cut if they win this year’s Standard Bank Knock-Out Cup at home.
Civo captain Emmanuel Zoya confirmed that the players were motivated ahead of the final against cup-specialists, Be Forward Wanderers on Sunday.
“The players have also asked me if I can talk to management to consider raising the game bonus from K20,000 to K30,000 for a win in this game,” Zoya said.
“I am yet to meet the bosses, but we have started training. We are confident that we can do it. We just need to work extra harder.”
Civo general secretary, Rashid Ntelela, on Monday confirmed that they have increased the percentage from the usual 50 percent.
But Ntelela said there was no possibility of increasing the game bonus. Civo squad comprises 28 players.
“Why should they want an increase when they normally get 50 percent? If they win the K10 million prize money, it means they will share K6 million and this is for players only. The agreed 50 percent includes the coaching panel,” Ntelela explained.
However, Wanderers are not shaken. The Nomads vice-team manager, Steve Madeira, told Times TV Tuesday that their players are among the best paid locally.
He added that the players are already motivated as their contracts entitle them to 60 percent cut for a cup win.
Wanderers beat Moyale Barracks 1-0 to qualify for the final whereas Civo stunned Big Bullets 2-1 in another semifinal.
