Civo United, Silver Strikers storm Blantyre

Capital City sleeping giants, Civo United hit the road in search for their first win of the season Saturday when they face Big Bullets in a tough TNM Super League match at Kamuzu Stadium.

Civo have gone eight games without a win, just scoring two goals and are stuck at the bottom of the table with two points but have warned Bullets not to expect an easy ride.

The fixture promises to be a thriller as both sides will be aiming for maximum points in today’s encounter.

Second-placed Bullets will be looking to displace Nomads on top of the log table while Civo are aiming for a victory to increase their chances of staying in the league.

Speaking on Wednesday, ahead of the match, Civo coach Oscar Kaunda said the boys were set to claim their first win of the season.

“We are underdogs on paper but football is played on the ground and we are determined to register our first win of the season,” said Kaunda.

As of Wednesday, Civo had a full squad and were boosted by the return of Flames defender John Lanjesi, who could feature against Bullets if cleared in time.

On his part, Bullets coach, Lloyd Nkhwazi, said his boys are not underrating wounded Civo ahead of the match.

“Civo are still a good team and we know that they will come hard on us because they want to chalk their first win,” he said.

Bullets were held to a one-all-draw by Blue Eagles at the same venue last week.

In another potentially explosive fixture on Saturday, Silver face Azam Tigers at Kalulu Stadium before playing Mighty Be Forward Wanderers on Sunday at Kamuzu Stadium.

Straight from their 0-1 loss at the hands of Epac, the Bankers will be looking for revenge against KauKau, a side that beat them twice last season.

In an interview on Wednesday, Silver coach, Stain Chirwa, said he was anticipating tough encounters against Tigers and Wanderers but was confident of getting maximum points.

Silver are fourth on the log table with 16 points from nine games.

”The players are geared for

the match and the morale is high in camp. We lost a painful match against Epac, but our focus now would be to return to winning ways against Tigers and Wanderers,” he said.

Chirwa said revenge mission would be on agenda when facing Tigers at the same time looking to close the gap on leaders Wanderers.

“We are going there on revenge mission after two painful defeats last season,” he said.

On the other hand, Tigers have assembled a good squad capable of beating any team in the league.

On Wednesday, Tigers technical director, Robin Alufandika, said his charges were ready to face Silver test.

“It will be a difficult game but we are ready to face them,” he said.
