Civonets warn Kukoma Diamonds

Rejuvenated Civonets are brimming with confidence ahead of the GOtv Netball Champions League final against giants, Kukoma Diamonds, today at Don Bosco in Lilongwe.

Civonets Coach, Whyte Mulilima, said Diamonds were no longer lethal, having beaten them in Mzuzu a fortnight ago.

“We have been looking forward to this game. My players want to replicate their form of Mzuzu. For sure, Diamonds are now panicking as they are afraid of losing the game. This will work to our advantage,” he said.

Civonets are determined to break their jinx and win a major national tournament in over two decades.

During the second round matches played in Mzuzu, Diamonds finished on first position whereas Civonets claimed second place.

The defeat of Mzuzu instilled fear in Diamonds’ camp as Civonets, through in-form shooter Jane Chimaliro, maximised their power-play in the league which is being played in fast5 format.

Now Civonets have a chance to win the K3 million championship prize money.

Diamonds Assistant Coach, Noel Mussa, said they were still capable of winning the title.

“Let us be honest, it is difficult for a team to wrap-up a Fast5 tournament without tasting defeat. We lost and we learnt some lessons. We will approach this game differently and, at the end, we will come out victors,” he said.

Diamonds will look up to their skipper Caroline Mkukule- Ngwira for inspiration on how to tame in-form Chimaliro.

In a third/fourth place play-off, Blue Eagles Sisters will meet improved Mafco Soldiers whereas Tigresses date Thunder Queens in a fifth/sixth play-off battle.

Northern Region ambassadors Lameck and Mimosa will meet in position seven/eight place play-offs.
