Comoros arrive from France
Flames’ opponents in tomorrow’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, Comoros Islands, arrived in the country Thusday from their training camp in France through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, said the team landed at 12:20pm and was driven to Bridgeview Hotel in the Capital City.
Later in the afternoon, the Indian Ocean island team took some time out to loosen up at Nankhaka Ground.
Gunda said the visitors will be allowed access to the match venue, Bingu National Stadium, in line with Confederation of African Football (Caf) requirements.
“I can confirm that Comoros National Football Team is in the country for the match. Our officials went to the airport to welcome them. They were in France where they played Togo,” Gunda explained in a brief interview.
The Fam Chief Executive Officer also disclosed that the association’s secretariat had relocated to Lilongwe to ensure that the match is played without any incidents.
He said the move was necessary because such games require thorough preparations as there is a lot at stake.
Comoros seem to be very serious about the game as they have assembled a squad of players who were born in Europe.
The team lost its preparatory match against Togo 2-0 last Sunday
