Connie Karuku, Steve Chisale win in Zomba TNM golf

Renowned golfers Connie Karuku and Steve Chisale emerged champions of a TNM Golf tournament held at Zomba Gymkhana Club on Saturday.

In the men’s section, Chisale, was counted in after scoring 45 points to emerge winner whereas second-placed Richards Mkwapatira was counted out after also scoring 45 points to finish as the runner-up.

Charles Mukiwa scored 43 points and was counted in to finish on position three.

Chisale said it was an emotional tournament following the death of his daughter last week.

“I lost my daughter last week and my wife was reluctant to allow me to play in this tournament. It took a lot of persuasion for her to give me the consent to play. So I came here and did the best for my wife and my departed daughter,” he said.

In men’s subsidiary prizes, Yohane Mzuza hit the longest drive whereas Muhammad Patel won the nearest to the pin.

In the ladies’ section, Karuku, playing of handicap 15, scored 42 points to emerge winner.

Bose Kamphulusa finished as the runner-up with 36 points.

In ladies’ subsidiary prizes, Beatrice Mangwana won the longest drive.

In a category for TNM employees, Harriet Marian was crowned champion with 36 points.

The tournament attracted a field of 67 golfers, breaking the past four years’ record which stood at 56.
