COPS DETAINED

DOMINANT—Bullets easily defeated Eagles—Picture by Lazarus Nedi

For all the latest promises, Blue Eagles free fall continued yesterday when they suffered their third consecutive loss after a 4- 0 defeat to Nyasa Big Bullets in a TNM Super League match at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

At Chitowe Stadium, second placed Be Forward Wanderers also kept their title hopes alive after a deserved 2-0 win over Dwangwa United.

The title race is heading to an exciting finale as Bullets lead the log table with 55 points from 25 matches whereas Wanderers are second just one point below their arch-rivals from the same number of games.

Bullets and Wanderers have tough assignments as they face Kamuzu Barracks and Masters Security FC at Kamuzu Stadium and Civo Stadium respectively on Wednesday.

The title race is a two-horse competition between Bullets and Wanderers with five matches remaining after Eagles lost three consecutive games to be out of the title race.

Just a day after losing 3-1 to rookies Ntopwa FC, Eagles were also torn apart by Bullets. Hassan Kajoke hammered a brace whereas Righteous Banda and Mike Mkwate were also on target.

In a post-match interview, Bullets Assistant Coach Peter Mponda said it was one of their best performance as they were both solid at the back and ruthless in attack.

“We are focusing on our games. We hope to continue playing like this to achieve what we are looking for,” he said.

But Eagles Team Manager, Frank Kalozeni, said the cops were exhausted.

“We have played a lot of games within a short period. The players are human beings and they need to rest and recover. I am not surprised that we are performing like this,” he said.

At Chitowe Stadium, Wanderers started with three strikers namely Babatunde Adepoju, Zicco Mkanda and Peter Kasonga.

But it was Harry Nyirenda who broke the deadlock with five minutes to the break.

Nyirenda chested a Ted Sumani cross before shooting into the net inside the box.

After the break, Wanderers pulled out Katsonga for Vincent Nyangulu. The substitute registered his name on the score sheet with a neat finish from the edge of the box beating goalkeeper Sunganani Mponda.

The hosts tried to put things together through Mohammed Biason, Chifuniro Mpinganjira and Steve Saka but failed to break Wanderers defence comprising Nyirenda, Peter Cholopi, Stanley Sanudi and Sumani.

Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira said they were taking every game like a final.

“We have tough games ahead of us but we can get maximum points. We are taking each game as it comes,” he said.

But Dwangwa coach, Ladwel Mbetewa, said his troops had a bad day at the office.

Elsewhere, Silver Strikers recovered as they beat Kamuzu Barracks 1-0 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Michael Tetteh scored the lone goal of the match as Silver moved to third spot with 50 points displacing Eagles who are now fourth with 47 points from 28 matches.

Chitipa United defeated Mlatho Mponela 2-0 at Karonga Stadium with goals from Khumbo Ng’ambi and Irvin Mwakapenda whereas TN Stars and Moyale Barracks shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw at Kasungu Stadium.

China Chirwa scored for TN whereas Wacheta Mwenefumbo was on target for Moyale
