Capital Oil Refining Industries (Cori) Director, Ameen Karim, has donated K200,000 each to Kukoma Diamonds players who are with the Malawi national netball team.
Diamonds have contributed Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira, Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda, Bridget Kumwenda-Chalera and Alinafe Kamwala to the Queens squad which will compete in the World Cup from July 12 to 21 in Liverpool, England.
The club’s chairperson, Lumbani Mtonyo, said the donation follows her request to Karim to consider motivating the players who were selected for national duty.
“As a team, we thought of ways of motivating the team. This is one way of encouraging hard work among players. Karim wants the players to make an impact wherever they go. So I requested him to consider giving players who will make the final squad an incentive to continue working hard. This will also inspire others to aim at breaking into the Queens squad,” Mtonyo said.
Karim said he wanted Diamonds players to focus on helping Malawi to win games at the global event.
“Our players should help the Queens to shine in Liverpool. My donation should serve as an incentive for them to compete against the best,” he said.
Mtukule-Ngwira thanked Karim for the donation, saying it would motivate them to fight for Malawi.
“We have a reason to smile and work hard to impress at the tournament. This is an incentive to us,” she said.
