Capital Oil Refining Industry (Cori) has disclosed that it intends to open a long-term sponsorship with GOtv Netball Champions League holders, Kukoma Diamonds.
Cori sponsors the team at K4.5 million. The deal was announced in June, but the contract was sealed in September.
Cori logistics manager, Evans Wingolo, said the firm was waiting for the netball season to end before opening a long-term sponsorship discussion.
“We want our relationship to grow further. So far, we are satisfied with the progress of the team. In five months, they have brought us a trophy. Once the netball season is over, we will do a proper analysis then we will open negotiations,” Wingolo said.
However, Wingolo warned Diamonds against complacency, saying Cori as a company always want to be associated with a winning team.
“Much as we would like to open a long-term discussion, but the results in the remaining part of the season will matter,” he said in reference to the Presidential Netball trophy.
“As such we want them to lift the Presidential trophy as well to decorate our shelf with two trophies.”
Diamonds assistant coach, Noel Mussa, said they were determined to impress the sponsor.
“We have spent over five years without a sponsor. We will work hard to win the Presidential trophy, so that we should win the heart of the sponsor to consider extending the sponsorship,” he said.
Mussa said since Cori started sponsoring the team, things have changed.
“Players were hardly reporting for training and this affected our performance. The players are now willing to train and play games,” he said.
