Cornelius Mwalwanda explains move to MCP
Former deputy Finance minister Cornelius Mwalwanda has said he has moved to Malawi Congress Party (MCP) because the party has sound policies that would develop the country.
MCP has since given him the position of Deputy Director of Economic Planning. Mwalwanda said on Monday that he was ready to work with MCP president Lazarus Chakwera and the entire team for the good of Malawians.
“I have joined MCP because its policies are sound and under the leadership of Dr Chakwera, the party will develop this country. I am comfortable that I have joined the party and have no regrets,” said Mwalwanda.
His comments come after he indicated that he applied to rejoin the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). He confirmed that he had consultations with DPP to rejoin the party but said he finally decided to go to MCP because of its policies which he said are people-centred.
He said DPP did not reject him.
Karonga MCP district committee yesterday welcomed Mwalwanda into the party.
Mwalwanda served in the DPP under the late president Bingu wa Mutharika. After Mutharika’s death in 2012, he joined People’s Party under Joyce Banda. He was member of Parliament for Karonga Central Constituency.
