The Council for Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) will today conduct another draw for the Under-17 Championship slated for December 1 to 10 in Maseru, Lesotho.

This follows the late inclusion of Zimbabwe, bringing the number of teams to 11 from 10 in this year’s edition.

Initially, there were two groups of five teams each as the junior Flames were drawn in Group B alongside defending champions South Africa, Botswana, Angola and Seychelles.

Flames Under-17 Coach Deklerk Msakakuona, who was not available for comment Tuesday, earlier stated that his troops needed proper planning and good preparations to do well this year.

“Let us not pile pressure on the youngsters because we will travel with a completely new team,” he is quoted as saying.

Group B had hosts Lesotho, Zambia, eSwatini, Mauritius and Madagascar. However, following the development, both groups have been nullified.

In a statement on Monday Cosafa, said the format of the competition will now be three pools, two with four teams and one with three.

“In this context, we felt it would be wrong to exclude Zimbabwe and deny their players the opportunity to compete on this grand stage,” the statement reads.

Malawi finished last during the 2020 edition but leaked goals like nobody’s business.
