Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has set the hype for the Cosafa Under-17 Championship by announcing that entry is free-of-charge.
The competition kicks off tomorrow with Lesotho dating Comoros in the opener at Mpira Stadium, Chiwembe Township, Blantyre, whereas Angola clash with Mozambique in another Group B match at the same venue.
Fam Commercial and Marketing Director, Limbani Matola, said Malawi was delighted to host the tournament.
“We are happy to inform all Malawians and all soccer diehards that preparations for hosting Cosafa Under-17 Championship have been concluded. Most importantly, we are happy to inform Malawians that all matches beginning Friday 11th October throughout to 20th October, are absolutely free-of-charge,” he said.
However, Matola said Fam had put in place security systems to ensure safety of all stakeholders.
To achieve this, interested supporters are supposed to access match-day tickets [which are for free] from designated points such as Kamuzu Stadium and Misesa Primary School.
“However, we have arranged match-day tickets that everyone coming to watch the games is supposed to produce upon entering the stadium. People can access tickets at Misesa Primary School, and Kamuzu Stadium. It is important to have match-day tickets as you come to watch the games.
“We want to ensure that there is enough security and that there is perfect crowd control management. The stadia have specific capacity. For example, Mpira Stadium can take up to 5,000 people. Therefore, it is important to have tickets,” he said.
Matola hailed other organisation that have supported the exercise, including the Department of Tourism, TNM, Vital Water (Rab Processors) and Rainbow Paints.
Meanwhile, Comoros arrived on Tuesday whereas Lesotho, Angola, Mozambique, Zambia followed by South Africa yesterday.
ESwatini will arrive in the country today.
