Cosoma calls for Cultural Fund proposals

Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) has called for proposals from the creative sector for the Cultural Fund, which was launched recently by Minister of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife Michael Usi.

Cultural Fund Manager Blessings Botha said Tuesday that, having launched the Fund, it was now time for creatives to tap from the fund and utilise it to propel projects.

“The Copyright Fund call is open to all those in the creative sector, be it in urban or rural areas, and we are encouraging them to apply,” Botha said.

Usi called on players managing the fund during the launch to be transparent in their dealings, adding that the initiative should benefit creatives.

Botha said the fund is transparent and that it is there to benefit creatives.

For a long time, creatives have failed to develop their artistry because of lack of resources and in the absence of National Arts and Heritage Council (Nahec), whose bill is yet to be passed in Parliament, many creatives are struggling.

According to the call, the deadline for submission of proposals is October 31 2022.

The call further says that the notification of funding is November 18 2022.

It also says that for a national project a maximum of K10 million will be given per project whereas for community project, the proposals will get a maximum of K3 million.

Several creatives in the country have welcomed the Cultural Fund, which the copyright body has created following the phasing out of Cultural Support Scheme which was supported by the Royal Nowergian Embassy.
