The High Court sitting in Zomba has granted an injunction to Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (Pac) Chairperson Shadreck Namalomba, restraining attempts to remove him from his position.

This comes after Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) leaders recently announced their intention to have him removed from the position, citing conflict of interest.

This was after Namalomba had issued a statement, in his capacity as Democratic Progressive Party spokesperson, condemning Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) agents for intimidating former president Peter Mutharika.

This week, HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence and other leaders asked Namalomba to resign from his position.

In a statement which HRDC released on October 2 2021, it said it was shocked by DPP’s statement on ACB-Mutharika engagement.

But the Pac chairperson argued that there were countless people who were serving in both party and parliamentary committee positions.

“My resignation will not save anything. As it stands, many people in Parliament have party positions and are at the same time holding public positions. We are talking of the Speaker even the Leader of Opposition. After all, the letter was not mine but from the party,” he said.
