Cracks have emerged in the National Coaches Association (NCA) over the proposed names for the Malawi Under-20 national team coaching panel.

The post of under-20 coach fell vacant after Meck Mwase was promoted to the position of senior Flames head coach this year.

Nyasa Big Bullets Assistant Coach, Peter Mponda, has been proposed as head coach with newly appointed Masters Security Coach, Audlow Makonyola and Christopher Nyambose as his assistants.

Aubrey Nankhuni has been proposed as the Team Manager whereas Sibusiso Padambo is the goalkeepers’ trainer.

This is contained in a leaked letter signed by the body’s General Secretary, Davie Mpima, addressed to Football Association of Malawi (Fam),

Mpima, in an interview Thursday, confirmed that he authored the letter, but insisted it was not for public consumption.

“Some people of ill motive posted it on social media but there are several channels we need to follow before the names are approved,” Mpima said.

But details indicate that majority of the members in the coaches body have proposed three different names for the position of head coach namely Leo Mpulula, Alex Ngwira and Patricio Kulemeka.

Milias Pofera, Mac Donald Yobe and Thom Nkolongo were also proposed for the position of assistant coach whereas Makonyola and Nkunika were proposed as assistant coaches.

Mpima was earmarked for team manager role.

However, reliable sources within the association said the other names were not approved by the body.

“It is very strange that there are other names which we did not discuss. We do not know the names and I think it is someone who wants to impose the names on us but we cannot accept it,” one of the sources said.

Fam General Secretary, Alfred Gunda could not answer his mobile phone after several attempts.

When contacted Thursday, Fam Vice President, James Mwenda, who is the chairperson of the association’s sub technical committee, refused to comment on the matter.

Fam President Walter Nyamilandu Manda was not available for his comment Thursday.

When contacted Thursday, Makonyola said he did not have enough details on his appointment.

The coaches’ body makes recommendations but Fam Sub technical committee has the powers to appoint the coach.

Malawi under-20 national team is expected to go into camp on Monday next week in preparation for the Cosafa Cup Youth championship slated to start early December in Lusaka, Zambia.
