Central Region Football Association (CRFA) has expressed deep shock with the untimely death of Mponela United owner, Gracias Chikoma, who was reportedly murdered by unknown people in Lilongwe on Friday.
Kanengo Police spokesperson, Esther Mkwanda, said Chikoma’s body was found dumped along Kaunda Road on Friday and that investigations were underway.
“The body was dumped along Kaunda Road on July 3 2020 but we are yet to establish the cause of death,” Mkwanda said.
CRFA Vice General Secretary, Antonio Manda, said the soccer fraternity had lost a great man.
“We are shocked and we mourn together with the rest of the football family. He was a humble man who contributed a lot to football. He will be greatly missed,” Manda said.
Chikoma was involved in the club’s ownership wrangle with Mlatho Technologies also claiming stakes in the relegated TNM Super League outfit.
Mponela’s slot in the regional league was up for grabs and Simbi FC are reported to have bought it.
This comes after Mlatho withdrew sponsorship in May to mark the end of the ownership wrangle which also involved CRFA.
The late Chikoma hailed from Khuthe Village in Mvera, Dowa District. Details of his burial were still unknown as of Sunday.
