Filmmakers in the country today will be meeting for the Film Association of Malawi (Fama) Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) offices where among others, they are expected to choose a president, who is to lead them in the coming years.
All the positions in the National Executive Committee (Nec) are up for grabs but the players will be looking forward to the hot seat of president which will see veteran filmmaker Shemu Joyah battling it out with the current president Ezaius Mkandawire.
Mkandawire is seeking re-election.
“We are set for the AGM as well as elections. We have waited for long and now we have to do it,” he said.
Mkandawire has since asked delegates attending the AGM to have protective wear.
“At least they need to have face masks in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic. This happens all year round and this year it is more interesting in that we have an elective conference with more members participating,” he said.
Joyah, who has earned respect in the film industry both local and international with his award winning movies such as The Last Fishing Boat, also said he was ready to challenge Mkandawire.
“I thought I should take a more active role in Fama and try to improve things and so, I am ready,” he said.
