United Kingdom-based stand-up comedian Daliso Chaponda is set to perform at Kumbali Lodge in Lilongwe next week in a VIP show dubbed Kumbali Comedy Night.
Daliso will perform at Kumbali for the first time on February 18 2022.
Daliso confirmed the development Wednesday.
The last time the British Got Talent finalist held a show in the country was before Covid hit the world.
“This is the first trip I am doing back in Malawi since coronavirus entered our lives. I am very much looking forward to it. I have wanted to come back many times in the last two-and-a-half years but it was very risky that I would come and not be able to come back to the UK where I generally have my life. I am very much looking forward to seeing my family and performing in Malawi,” he said.
Being a VIP comedy night, people will have to dig deeper paying K85,000 per person on entry and K160,000 for a couple with a three-course dinner inclusive.
“We are doing it strictly for a smaller audience than usual. Usually when I am doing Malawi, I have 700 to 800 people to a thousand coming to see me but, with omicron and corona, we will do smaller audience but VIP experience,” Daliso said.
He said he was looking forward to coming back and experience the heat.
“I am releasing new jokes about the crazy two years we have had, the crazy things happening in Malawi and UK and I just cannot wait to be back,” the stand-up comedian, who will share the stage with poet Q Malewezi, said.
He assured people that he would come back later in the year for another proper public show.
“I will be back doing a show for the public and everyone but for now I will not have a thousand people show until after omicron or corona is pretty much gone, or fully managed. Doing a show with more people would mean being irresponsible. So, for now, I am doing a show for 100 people and another one in Blantyre— not sure about the numbers,” Daliso said.
He said depending on corona numbers, he could hold another show in July or September.
