Daliso Chaponda’s comedy feast delights BICC

After a successful outing at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre last weekend, United Kingdom-based comedian Daliso Chaponda stormed Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on Saturday to continue with his comedy feast.

The Lilongwe show had a trio package of Daliso, Imran Yusuf and Ugandan Salvado unlike in Blantyre, where Daliso shared the stage with Imran Yusuf only.

It was a night to remember as Daliso, Yusuf and Salvado displayed the splendor of stand-up comedy.

Daliso was the first to hit the stage and from the word go sent people into stitches with his jokes that resonated well with the audience as it touched on Malawian politics.

He left the platform on fire paving way for Yusuf, who also served exciting jokes.

Daliso as the main player was not done on the night as he returned on stage and unleashed more jokes proving that he was no ordinary stand-up comedian.

He then left the stage for Salvado whose jokes were mostly linked to his country.

After the show, Daliso said it has always been great for him performing in the country.

“It has been hard the past two to three years to perform due to Covid which led to lockdowns but now things are opening up and I am happy to perform here at home,” he said.

Asked as to how he was able to integrate Malawian scenarios into his jokes despite being based in UK, he said: “People are people, people fall in love everywhere, people have family everywhere, people have religion everywhere I just talk about universal subjects.”

He then promised to come back in December this year for another performance.

Early this year, Daliso also held two VIP shows in Lilongwe.

Some of the notable faces at the show were Daliso’s father, who is the former minister of Agriculture, George Chaponda and musician, Lucius Banda.
