United Kingdom-based comedian Daliso Chaponda and Carl Joshua Ncube Wednesday called upon people to come in large numbers and enjoy a buffet of comedy dubbed Wakanda For Laughter tonight at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre.
The show tonight, to be hosted by veteran producer Tapps Bandawe, will also have special guests which include Pemphero Mphande, Walter Nyamilandu and Brian Banda and a special performance from Nathaniel.
Daliso returns to Amaryllis Hotel for the second time, having held a show at the venue early this year.
“I am excited to be back and this time around, it is a different show. I have a whole set of new jokes and, through this Wakanda For Laughter tour, I want to show the world that Africa is beautiful and we enjoy doing different things including art,” he said during a press conference.
He said, by public demand, they will hold two shows at Amaryllis Hotel, with the other event on Sunday.
Ncube, who is a familiar figure in the country having had stints in Malawi with Daliso, also said he will be serving fresh jokes to the people.
“It’s been some time since I performed in the country but I am happy to be here once again. There are lots of things that we will tackle but people should come prepared to enjoy and have fun,” he said.
Ncube described comedy as an interesting art but challenging, and that it demands one to research and at the same time execute the work better.
“My advice to comedians in the country is that they should not rush to get to the top but continue to learn and improve their craft. It has also been a journey for me and Daliso to be where we are today. There is also a need for them to realise that art is not for charity but it is a business and, being a business, you need to win the audience but there has to be quality,” he said.
Ncube also promised to interact with comedians as part of growing the comedy industry and share ideas.
During the presser, the two comedians were flanked by Entertainers Promotions Director Tonderai Banda and Amaryllis Hotel General Manager Ramy Waheed, who have partnered other players including Times Group through Times Television in the show.
Waheed said they thought it wise to host Daliso Ncube and Conrad Koch.
“We, at Amaryllis Hotel, support all forms of art and culture and continue to support and propel the arts in the form of comedy. This is also the month of December and what a better time for some light hearted entertainment to get us all in the holiday spirit,” he said.
Waheed also said people who buy tickets stand a chance of winning awesome prizes including a free ticket to Dubai or Johannesburg by Satguru Travels during a raffle draw.
Apart from Malawi, the Wakanda For Laughter tour will see Daliso holding performances in Zambia, Kenya and Tanzania.
The comedian, son to former minister of Agriculture George Chaponda, will hold a show in Kenya on December 10 and then Blantyre on December 11.
He will then perform in Lusaka, Zambia, on December 15 before dating Tanzania on December 17 and then back to Malawi and this time in Lilongwe on December 18.
