Afro-pop musician Dan Lufani has got an injunction restraining Sisqo Productions from spreading messages of cancellation of the launch of his Sweet Banana song which he collaborated with Nigerian star Kcee.
The Part of Life creator announced that he will launch his Sweet Banana song on November 6, 2016 at Lilongwe Golf Club to be graced by Kcee.
This however, did not go down well with Dan Lu’s company, Sisqo Productions which came out to say that the show would not take place.
In a video interview which has gone viral, Sisqo Productions’ boss Christopher Tochukwu Nwaogwugwu claimed that Dan Lu had breached the contract he signed with them and went ahead among others organising shows without consulting them.
Nwaogwugwu further said that they had taken an injunction stopping Dan Lu from being involved in any musical activities including hosting the Sweet Banana show until their contractual issues were sorted out.
However, Dan Lu according to court documents made an application for an injunction which has since been granted.
“The defendants by either themselves, their agents or counterparts or by whosover or howsoever otherwise be and are hereby restrained from spreading messages of cancellation of the launch of the song called ‘Sweet Banana’ which the plaintiff did in collaboration with Kcee,” reads the court documents dated October 18, 2016.
It further said that the defendant which is Sisqo Productions must refrain from publishing online, print media or electronic media any messages of such cancellation of the show.
Dan Lu has since said the other party has been served with the injunction.
Will not talk about contract but the show that its now on, we were in court and while still there Sisqo Productions came out and started spreading information that my show has been cancelled. But now I have been granted the injunction that the show has to go ahead,’ he said.
Dan Lu explained that he put together the show after Sisqo Productions had told him that they had no money.
“All I wanted was to launch the song for people here to party with me and when I told Sisqo Productions they told me they had no money and gave me a go ahead to organise it before setting the date,” he said.
Dan Lu said he later went on to contact Kcee and arranged everything before informing Sisqo Productions.
“We actually agreed that the money I had used will be deducted from the gate collections and then the remaining amount would be given to Sisqo to get their percentage with the remainder to be given to me but things didn’t go down well,” he said.
The musician said despite the differences, he was still in good books with Sisqo Productions adding that he has been royal since he signed a contract.
Dan Lu said they are still friends but the disagreements forced him to go to the court.
He maintained that he could not talk about the contract issues for now but rather was focusing on the show which was on without fail.
Kcee recently released another video where he told Malawians that he was coming without fail and that people should not mind what was being said that the show had been cancelled.
However, with the differences which have come up at this time Dan Lu said he will terminate the contract.
“Of course there are issues to sort out, I agree Sisqo Productions spent some money on some of the projects but there are some trips I made which I used my own money,” he said.
