Daud Suleman in Cosafa organising committee

Council of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) has appointed Football Association of Malawi (Fam) executive member, Daud Suleman, as one of this year’s Cosafa Castle Cup match coordinators.

The tournament is set to kick off on June 25, 2017 in Rustenburg, South Africa, where the Flames will also compete.

Both Fam Chief Executive Officer, Alfred Gunda, and Suleman himself confirmed the development in an interview yesterday.

Gunda said Cosafa had written Fam on appointing Suleman into the competition’s organising committee as he is a well-trained Confederation of Africa Football (Caf) match coordinator.

Gunda said the development is good for Malawi football as Suleman will gain international exposure.

“We got an invitation from Cosafa that Suleman has been appointed to the organising committee of this year’s tournament. Mr. Suleman is one of Caf’s match coordinators and Cosafa appointed him based on that,” said Gunda.

Suleman said the appointment has come at the right time as he had never been assigned to any international match since he was trained by Caf.

The former Super League of Malawi (Sulom) vice president said he is excited to take up his first assignment as a match coordinator and said he will do his best to perform to the expectations.

“It feels great to be recognised in this manner. There are so many of us in the Cosafa region and it is not easy to be singled out. This appointment will help me to gain confidence and experience in coordinating international matches. Despite this being my first time to carry out such an assignment, I will do my best throughout the tournament for the sake of my country Malawi,” Suleman said.

The Flames kick off the Cosafa Cup campaign with a fixture against Tanzania in the preliminary round before facing Mauritius and Angola.
