Davie Moya, Rodrick Gonani named Silver U-20 coaches
Silver Strikers have re-deployed their seasoned players, Rodrick Gonani and Davie Moya, to positions of the Bankers’ Under-20 team coaches.
Moya and Gonani were among 10 players Silver axed due to under-performance last season. They do not have formal coaching qualifications.
As part of Club Licensing Systems requirements, all TNM Super League teams are required to have an Under-20 team.
Silver general secretary, Chimwemwe Mkwimba, said on Tuesday that the two players have been re-deployed to the junior team’s technical panel alongside former defender, Patrick Mangani.
“Gonani and Moya have been loyal to the team for longtime. We decided that the best way to thank them was to maintain them in our set-up. They know our style of play and it would be easy for them to impart knowledge to the younger players,” Mkwimba said.
Silver also have a reserve team that plays in Chipiku Premiership Division.
On Tuesday, Gonani claimed that the club had not officially communicated to him on the job offer, whereas Moya was not available for comment.
“I will decide on the offer once they approach me, but for now there is nothing concrete,” the former Azam Tigers player Gonani said.
It looks like Gonani fancies continuing playing football for some years, with unconfirmed reports linking him to another Lilongwe-based outfit Epac.
At the peak of his career, Gonani was considered as one of the most consistent attackers on the domestic scene having helped Silver to win trophies, including the TNM Super League title.
