On her part, National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) Chairperson Suzgo Ngwira said she was shocked.

“We will greatly miss his contribution to the game of women’s football. He was so passionate about the game,’’ Ngwira said.

He unearthed several women’s football players in Malawi including Scorchers captain Tabitha and her young sister Temwa Chawinga. Tabitha wrote on her Facebook page that she was deeply saddened.

“I am deeply saddened and heartbroken by the passing on of the father and founder of the team, DD Sunshine. He groomed and nurtured me. I am where I am today because of him. May you rest well Mr David Dube,’’ Tabitha said.

The official signing ceremony was expected to take place today in Lilongwe but has been shifted to a later date.
