DD Sunshine founder mourned

The football fraternity has mourned DD Sunshine founder David Dube who died after a long illness in Lilongwe yesterday. Dube died on Saturday morning at his residence in Likuni Township.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) president Walter Nyamilandu led the nation in mourning the former football administrator.
“We will live to remember Dube as a great person who was the pioneer of women’s football. He played a big role in developing DD Sunshine which opened doors for girls to actively play football,’’ Nyamilandu said.
On her part, National Women’s Football Association (NWFA) Chairperson Suzgo Ngwira said she was shocked.
“We will greatly miss his contribution to the game of women’s football. He was so passionate about the game,’’ Ngwira said.
He unearthed several women’s football players in Malawi including Scorchers captain Tabitha and her young sister Temwa Chawinga. Tabitha wrote on her Facebook page that she was deeply saddened.
“I am deeply saddened and heartbroken by the passing on of the father and founder of the team, DD Sunshine. He groomed and nurtured me. I am where I am today because of him. May you rest well Mr David Dube,’’ Tabitha said.
His death comes just few days after TNM Super League side Silver Strikers acquired Sunshine.
The official signing ceremony was expected to take place today in Lilongwe but has been shifted to a later date.
Dube also served as Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Executive Committee member. He also served in several capacities in Scorchers technical panel.
